Boxing_Kenji 的故事
Born on Boxing Day, December 26th, 1991 — the day after Christmas, and ironically, the day the Soviet Union officially dissolved.
My dad is Japanese, my mum is from Tallinn (Estonia). They met in Moscow in 1989. They always joked that I was the last citizen of the USSR — born on the day it ended.
Last year I went to Tallinn for the first time. Found my mum's childhood neighbor, now 80 years old. She remembered the day I was born — said she watched the Soviet flag come down on TV while feeding her cat. Then she pulled out a small wooden bear from a drawer:
'Your mother left this when she moved away. I always knew she'd send someone back for it.'
